Ask the Dust Movie Story. Based on John Fante's novel about a Mexican waitress who hopes to rise above her station by marrying a young and wealthy American. Things become complicated when she meets a poor first-generation Italian hoping to land a writing career and an American girl. Occupying a hallowed place in the literature of Los Angeles, John Fante's 1939 story "Ask the Dust" pulses with the bruised but hopeful poetry of outsiders' yearnings and hopes. The novel was also Much admired by novelist Charles Bukowski. Due to the inevitable modernization, Ask the Dust was shot in South Africa, where a large set of Downtown L.A. circa 1933, was built from scratch, assisted with workable CGI effects. Starring: Colin Farrell, Salma Hayek, Donald Sutherland, Charlie Hunnam and Eileen Atkins. |
